b'The Highland House MuseumIn 2021, the Highland House Museum is installing a new permanent exhibition, Wampanoag Nation: People of the First Light. This exhibit takes a close look at the history and culture of the Indigenous people who have lived on Cape Cod and the South Coast for thousands of years. Through archival photographs, maps, artwork, and objects, the exhibit illustrates the resilience and resourcefulness of the Native people who have faced continuous assaults on their land, their freedom, and their way of life.In conjunction with the exhibition, the Museum is presenting a variety of related programs, including a reading by Native poets, a webinar about the revival of the Wampanoag language, a storytelling by an Indigenous author, and talks by contemporary scholars of early American history. Because of COVID restrictions, we will offer a mix of online and in-person programs this season. As part of Truro Connections, the Highland House Museum will provide collaborative programs that will take place at Payomet Performing Arts Center. These programs will address racial and social justice issues on Cape Cod.32'
