b'Truro Flashback 60 YEARS AND COUNTING Sixty years ago Burt and Maxine Rice came to Truro with their family and a dream, to own their own business. The business they bought was the Whitman House. This had been a modest seasonal restaurant, lodging house and cottage colony operation dating back to the mid 19th century.Great things were to come!First was the Whitman Pancake House.A place where a family of four could purchase a platter of pancakes, scrambled eggs, bacon and sausage that would feed all for less than five dollars. The cottages rented for $8.95 a night for two. From that modest start a Truro treasure and institution to fine dining and comfortable attractive vacationing developed and is enjoyed by thousands each year.Congratulations Bob and Sally! You did Burt and Maxine proud.47'
